Burdett School

Prairie Rose Public Schools is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and versatile educator to join the team at Burdett School for the 2026-2027 school year. Burdett School is a rural K-9 school with a population of approximately 140 students in Southeastern Alberta. We are located 45 min west of Medicine Hat and 1 hour east of Lethbridge. Along with a strong academic based program, students receive a full complement of extracurricular activities. In addition to our English based education, we offer a German language and Mennonite culture/religion class to our Mennonite students, who constitute approximately 98% of the student population. Reporting to the school principal, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction in Science 6,7,8, and 9; Career and Technology Foundations 7,8,9, and other subjects assigned by the principal, while maintaining a positive, safe, and caring learning environment. Through adequate preparation and organization, the teacher will exhibit excellent classroom management in the promotion of goals and standards as adopted and approved by Alberta Education. Using regular evaluation and reporting, the teacher will encourage and foster lifelong learning in students while maintaining confidentiality and open communication with parents and guardians. The successful candidate will work collaboratively in a professional team environment.

Qualifications

● Bachelor of Education Degree from an accredited University ● Alberta Teaching Certificate ● Knowledge of ELL learners ● CTF ability with music would be considered an asset ● Understanding of the Mennonite Culture would be considered an asset.

Terms of Employment

• 1.0 FTE Probationary Teaching Contract • August 27, 2026 – June 29, 2027

Prairie Rose School Division is primarily located in the South-Eastern region of Alberta in the communities of: Bow Island, Cypress County, County of 40 Mile, Foremost, MD of Acadia Valley, Oyen, Redcliff and Special Areas, along with two schools in the City of Calgary. The Division consists of 18 public schools, 2 Outreach schools, 2 Alternative Program schools, and 19 Hutterite Colony schools and educates approximately 6500 students. Our Division office is located in Dunmore, Alberta, near the city of Medicine Hat.
