Burdett School

Prairie Rose Public Schools is seeking a full-time temporary teacher at Burdett School. Burdett School is a rural K-9 school with a population of approximately 140 students in Southeastern Alberta. We are located 45 min west of Medicine Hat and 1 hour east of Lethbridge. Along with a strong academic based program, students receive a full complement of extracurricular activities. In addition to our English based education, we offer a German language and Mennonite culture/religion class to our Mennonite students, who constitute approximately 98% of the student population. Reporting to the school principal, the successful candidate will primarily be responsible for providing instruction in a grade 2 class, as well as the possibility of other subjects as assigned by the principal, while maintaining a positive, safe, and caring learning environment. Through adequate preparation and organization, the teacher will exhibit excellent classroom management in the promotion of goals and standards as adopted and approved by Alberta Education. Using regular evaluation and reporting, the teacher will encourage and foster lifelong learning in students while maintaining confidentiality and open communication with parents and guardians. The successful candidate will work collaboratively in a professional team environment.

Qualifications

● Bachelor of Education Degree from an accredited University ● Alberta Teaching Certificate ● Knowledge of ELL learners ● Understanding of the Mennonite Culture would be considered an asset.

Terms of Employment

● 1.0 FTE Temporary Teaching Contract ● August 27th, 2026 – December 18th, 2026 (depending on return date for incumbent, this position may be extended)

Prairie Rose School Division is primarily located in the South-Eastern region of Alberta and educates approximately 5100 students in the communities of: Bow Island, Cypress County, County of 40 Mile, Foremost, MD of Acadia Valley, Oyen, Redcliff and Special Areas, with two schools in the City of Calgary, as well. The Division consists of 17 public schools, 2 Outreach schools. 2 Alternative Program schools, and 18 Hutterite Colony schools. Our Division office is located in Dunmore, Alberta, near the city of Medicine Hat.
