January 2024The design meetings over the last month have been used to review different options for a schematic design (layout) for the Parkside Renovation Project. The team has narrowed it down to a final draft schematic design that has now been incorporated into the schematic design report. This report is currently being reviewed by the School Board, Alberta Infrastructure and Alberta Education with comments due back by Feb 2nd. The project will have its first estimated costing completed by a cost consultant as part of the completion of the schematic design. The project is expected to move into the Design Development stage by the middle of February.
November 17, 2023The design planning is well underway and initial design plans have been shared with the Redcliff Project Planning Committee. Based on the results of the public survey, it was noted that students, parents and the community have placed a high priority on the school gymnasium as part of the modernization project. GEC Architects have been asked to price out costs to expand the gymnasium beyond what is provided in a 5-9 school design. If a decision is made to increase the gymnasium size, fundraising and community donations will be required to pay for the additional costs. Once the costs are known, more information will be shared with the community regarding how they can support the fundraising efforts.

GEC Architects presented the preliminary design report to Alberta Infrastructure. The report is a first draft outline of the scope of the project, which is subject to further review and changes. In addition, two gymnasium designs were presented to the Redcliff Project Committee for feedback which is due back by November 9th. It was shared that the size of the project will follow the Capital Manual template guidelines for a school with a grades 5-9 configuration. Parkside School will NOT be changing its grade configurations but will receive project funding under the grades 5-9 template.

The public survey closed on October 31st and the results are currently in the process of being shared with all members of the Redcliff Project Committee.

GEC Architects shared that they were working through the process of finalizing the pre design report to submit to Alberta Infrastructure. The report is a high level first draft overview of a possible design for the school project.

The public survey remains open and responses are being collected regarding what students, parents, staff and the community see as areas for improvement on the current Parkside School. The survey will close on October 31st and the results will be shared with the architects at the November 3rd Redcliff Project Committee meeting.

October 6, 2023Mechanical, electrical, structural and civil engineers were toured around the Parkside School building. Members of the Redcliff Project Committee reiterated the priorities for the project which include the gymnasium, CTF spaces, overall aesthetics and the mechanical room. It was noted that the request list will need to be clarified to prioritize the most important asks for the project identifying what is most important through to least important. Based on what has been identified by the committee, there is no plan to include any additional classroom space (aside from the CTF spaces). It was shared that a pre-design report that includes initial considerations must be submitted to Alberta Infrastructure for review in early November. The next meeting will take place on October 20, 2023.
September 22, 2023

The kickoff meeting of the Parkside Project Committee. The meeting was an opportunity for all parties to introduce themselves and discuss project priorities. It was shared that PRPS has a very tight timeline to complete the design and engagement stage of the project, which will be managed by Alberta Infrastructure. A walk though site inspection of Parkside School will occur in the next few weeks.

PRPS Communications will set up a community information page on the Prairie Rose division website where residents can receive up to date information about the project. Additionally, parents, staff and community members will have the opportunity to share their priorities for the Parkside project through an online engagement survey. This will be sent out at the beginning of  October. The next meeting of the Redcliff Project Committee will take place on October 6, 2023.
