Background Information:

In September 2023, Alberta’s government announced a comprehensive and phased approach to engaging with Albertans on new draft social studies curriculum.

In the fall, Albertans completed more than 12,800 online surveys to provide input on what they would like students to learn in new draft social studies curriculum. Survey results indicated that Albertans believe developing critical-thinking skills and understanding local, Canadian, and global events and global and national history should be key elements of new social studies curriculum.

Since then, Alberta Education has met with more than 300 education partners, teachers, multicultural organizations, and Indigenous and francophone communities to gather input and inform new draft curriculum development.

Albertans can provide input on key learnings within the new draft K-12 social studies curriculum through a feedback form on Alberta.ca. Feedback will be accepted until April 2, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
