Social Studies Teacher
South Alberta High School
Prairie Rose Public Schools is seeking a full-time Social Studies or Humanities teacher at South Alberta High School. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work exclusively with students from across the province who require flexible academic scheduling through our virtual learning model. Under the guidance of the School Principal, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting online learners by developing high quality digital course materials and fostering a learning environment that motivates students to remain focused and engaged. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate confidence and proficiency in utilizing a variety of technological platforms to enhance student learning. This role requires a strong understanding of the flexibility and adaptability needed to effectively support students engaged in intensive athletic schedules, performance-based commitments, frequent travel, or those who benefit from a non-traditional learning environment. Key responsibilities include providing academic support, assessing student work, developing and refining course content, and advising students as they complete the necessary courses to earn their AB High School Diploma. The successful candidate will also play an important role in cultivating the self discipline and independence required for students to achieve their future goals, whether pursuing post secondary education, athletic pathways, employment opportunities, or other personal aspirations.
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Education Degree from an accredited University with Major/Minor in Social Studies, History or English • Alberta Teaching Certificate; cross Canada Labour mobility supported • Knowledge of NCAA and USport academic entrance requirements is an asset
Terms of Employment
• 1.0 FTE Temporary Teaching Contract • April 13, 2026 – June 26, 2026, or upon return of the incumbent • Possible hybrid or remote work options
About Prairie Rose Public Schools:
Prairie Rose School Division is primarily located in the South-Eastern region of Alberta in the communities of: Bow Island, Cypress County, County of 40 Mile, Foremost, MD of Acadia Valley, Oyen, Redcliff and Special Areas, along with two schools in the City of Calgary. The Division consists of 18 public schools, 2 Outreach schools, 2 Alternative Program schools, and 18 Hutterite Colony schools and educates approximately 6500 students. Our Division office is located in Dunmore, Alberta, near the city of Medicine Hat.
