Science Teacher
Burdett School
Prairie Rose Public Schools is seeking a full-time teacher at Burdett School for the remainder of the school year. Located 45 minutes west of Medicine Hat, Burdett School is a rural K-9 school with a population of approximately 140 students. Along with a strong academic-based program, students receive a full complement of extracurricular activities. In addition to English-based education, Burdett School offers a German language and Mennonite culture/religion class to Mennonite students, who constitute approximately 98% of the student population. Under the guidance of the school principal, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction in Science 6, 7, 8, 9; Career and Technology Foundations 7, 8, 9, and other subjects as assigned by the principal. Through adequate preparation and organization, the teacher will exhibit excellent classroom management in the promotion of goals and standards as adopted and approved by Alberta Education. Using regular evaluation and reporting, the teacher will encourage and foster lifelong learning in students while maintaining confidentiality and open communication with parents and guardians. The successful candidate will work collaboratively in a professional team environment while maintaining a positive, safe, and caring learning environment. Understanding and respect for the Mennonite Culture is essential in this position.
Qualifications
● Bachelor of Education Degree from an accredited University ● Alberta Teaching Certificate ● Knowledge of ELL learners ● Ability to teach CTF courses
Terms of Employment
● 1.0 FTE Temporary Teaching Contract ● April 13, 2026 (or as soon as possible to this date) – June 26, 2026
About Prairie Rose Public Schools:
Prairie Rose School Division is primarily located in the South-Eastern region of Alberta in the communities of: Bow Island, Cypress County, County of 40 Mile, Foremost, MD of Acadia Valley, Oyen, Redcliff, and Special Areas, along with two schools in the City of Calgary. The Division consists of 18 public schools, 2 Outreach schools, 2 Alternative Program schools, and 18 Hutterite Colony schools and educates approximately 6500 students. Our Division office is located in Dunmore, Alberta, near the city of Medicine Hat.
