TNT - Try New Things
TNT -Try New Things
At I.F Cox, we have implemented a program called, TNT. The acronym stands for, "Try New Things". Our grade 1-3 students get to choose from twelve different options programs, designed by our staff. Every Friday, for six weeks, the students will be in multi-graded groups for an activity of their choice. Some of our sessions offered this round are sign language, pickleball, gymnastics, diamond art and cooking. After Easter, we will run another six week session, with new choices.
Why did we choose this program?
As we debriefed the results of our school review surveys, one of the outcomes we noticed that received a lower result was a "broad range of programs". As we already offered music, physical education and art, we needed to find another way to expand what we could offer. We wanted it to be something that was engaging for the students and the staff, and provided for an opportunity to include the community. TNT allows staff to offer something to students that they enjoy doing while broadening our program.
Why do you think students will benefit from the program?
There are many benefits of our new options program. First, is it gives our students some choice. They can choose topics that interest them or things they want to learn more about. TNT also allows us to have cross-graded groups which teaches our older students how to help and support younger students. It allows our grade three students to have some responsibility and leadership. One of the biggest benefits, is it introduces more adults to more students, which creates many more positive relationships in our building.
